Town's under-15s team helps to lift the gloom at Edgeley Park

STOCKPORT'S young team of starlets have been crowned English Schools' champions for the first time in the town's history after a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Warrington at Edgeley Park on Monday night.
Two goals in the opening minutes saw Stockport race to a 2-0 lead and, despite being pegged back with a stoppage time penalty, Stockport hung on to lift the trophy in front of a bumper crowd of 1,390.
Stockport manager Paul Lyne was full of praise for his players.
"It was an amazing start," he said.
"We worked really hard on set-pieces last week and in the first 10 minutes we were 2-0 up with two set-pieces and I was wondering where we went from there. It was a dream start.
"We are a good footballing side, but because of the pitch we decided there was no point trying to play football and we played the long ball all day, getting the ball up front as quickly as we could."
He added: "It was absolutely amazing to win the trophy, absolutely phenomenal. I'm going to have to pinch myself."
