Southend United travel to Stockport for this League One clash

Jim Gannon's men will be hoping that Southend are suffering from a cup hangover when they arrive at Edgeley Park on Saturday afternoon.

Southend fell to a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Phil Scolari's misfiring Chelsea team at Roots Hall during the week but will have to get back to their everyday business in the league. They may still be feeling the effects of such a hard game.

But the Shrimpers' boss, Steve Tilson, knows that his team have to bring themselves back to reality for this weekend:

"It was a great night against Chelsea, a night that we won't forget, but we now have to prepare for Saturday's match at Stockport. Stockport are a good footballing side and have done well this season. It will be a tough game up there, but it certainly won't be any tougher than playing Chelsea, so we have to go there and be positive."

Stockport's new loan signing, Dave Mooney, may not be fit for the game after picking up a knock against Swindon on Tuesday night. Fellow striker Peter Thompson may also not make the squad as he tries to overcome his illness.

Speaking about the striker, Gannon said: "He showed glimpses of why Reading rate him and it's just unfortunate he got a really bad knock and it's swollen up. We might lose him for the weekend."

Southend can welcome back Alan McCormack to the squad after his suspension and West Ham loanee Junior Stanislas plays the last game of his loan spell at the club.
