Broken bone puts paid to defender's hopes this term
STOCKPORT'S versatile defender Johnny Mullins has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
An MRI scan on Monday afternoon revealed a broken metatarsal in his left foot. The popular defender limped out of Saturday's home goalless draw against Yeovil after taking a knock that worsened the injury that had kept him out of the previous three games.
Mullins said: "Someone stamped on my foot after about ten minutes, and then when I cleared a ball later on my foot just crumbled.
"There's no way I could have carried on, and I'd like to thank the fans for the reception they gave me when I came off.
"I just want to play football, and I'm gutted that I'm going to miss the rest of the season, but that's football.
"Injuries are part and parcel of the game, so I've just got to take my medicine and get on with it."
Mullins joined Stockport on a free transfer from Mansfield Town last summer.
He has captained County on a number of occasions this season.
