County's Managing Director has made a statement on the club's finances

It is during this time of the year that rumours focus on players going in and out of the club but this year is different.

The Manchester Evening News has printed a story today (13th January) about Stockport's financial difficulties, hinting that the club is heading towards administration.

However, a statement has been made by Mark Maguire, Stockport County's Managing Director, refuting the claims. The full statement is below:

"We have always been open about the challenges we face running the business and we have also previously reported that income from outgoing transfers forms part of our budget strategy.

However, as we have also previously stated, players will only be allowed to leave if the offer is right for Stockport County and the opportunity is right for the player.

Fans can be reassured that the club's Board of Directors are acting prudently to ensure we remain competitive in League 1 and to secure the long-term future of Stockport County.

We are confident we can resolve the current short-term challenges and we are exploring a number of ways to take the club forward on a secure financial footing."
