County's Managing Director, Mark Maguire, has resigned

In a shock move, Stockport County's Managing Director, Mark Maguire, has resigned with immediate effect.

Mark Maguire became Managing Director in April 2007. Although the reasons for his departure are so far unknown, it comes in the aftermath of the club's financial trouble which forced the sale of players in the January transfer window.

A club statement said that "The club's Board of Directors and the current staff will continue day-to-day duties until a permanent successor has been identified."
