Administration threat lifted after exhaustive work behind the scenes
CASH-strapped Stockport have banished the threat of administration - for now - and are now looking forward to the future with much more confidence.
It had been widely rumoured for some weeks that Stockport were set to plunge out of business this week, but a statement released on the club website on Friday evening appears to paint a much more encouraging picture now, much to the relief of the loyal Edgeley Park faithful.
In the statement, County chairman Martin Reid said: "For the last few weeks Paul Cheetham, our financial director, our chief executive, Seán Connolly and I have had an exhausting round of very productive meetings.
"I cannot yet reveal the details of these meetings, but I can say that they have resulted in a substantial inflow of money into the club and that this has enabled us to meet our immediate financial requirements and push into the background the spectre of administration which nobody at the Club wants."
Finance chief Cheetham added: "We have bought ourselves a bit of time to bring serious inflows of cash to the club and give us a chance to plan realistically for the future."
Chief Executive Connolly though, asked fans not to get too euphoric just yet.
He said: "We have got our noses above water. Now we have to make sure that we keep them up there.
"There are a further series of meetings coming up and hopefully they will produce more positive news that I can pass onto County fans via the official website.
"Our objectives are still the same, though. Get past the immediate crisis - we are nearly there; stabilise the ship - we are laying the plans for that; then build for the future.
"It will not be either quick or easy. We need everybody at the club, staff, team and coaches, directors and supporters, to grasp the rope tightly and start pulling together even more than in the past."
