County stopped the rot last weekend when their goalless draw at Carlisle ended a horrendous run of 12 successive defeats in League One.
They followed that up with a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton in midweek but were unfortunate not to collect all three points and Ablett has taken heart from their last two performances.
He said: "We can go to Southampton, which will be a very difficult game, with a lot of heart in terms of the way we are set up and the way we try and play.
"Hopefully the pitch at St Mary's will suit us and be a passing surface so we can get it down and play."
