Take a look at how the season is going so far and whether SCFC MAD believes that we can take some positivity from lacklustre performances.

It looks like we’re in for another one of those season-long relegation battles. Luckily though, for us, only two teams lose their league status each year so it should be easier to avoid relegation than in the last few years.

Even those dedicated fans that are always optimistic are finding very little to be positive about. Most were hoping to pick up at least 4 points from the last two home games; Stockport finished with a laughable nil point. I personally reckon that Saturday’s score line did not reflect the performances of the team and even Chris Turner believes that the difference between many of the teams that Stockport play is the finishing in the penalty box.

Can Stockport turn it around? I certainly hope so. I think the basis for my remaining optimism is remembering the 03/04 season when Stockport went on a magical unbeaten run to save them from relegation. Also, we must not forget that we aren’t even half way through the season yet.

There is no doubting that the games over the Christmas period are vital if we are to keep our league status. These games are all winnable, two away games against local rivals and a home game against the only team below us in the whole football league! Whether these games will be won is a completely different matter.

It must be said that a prolific cup-run is still possible as Stockport were handed a winnable-tie against Oldham or Brentford, who play this evening to decide who will journey to Edgeley Park on the 7th January. County fans will hope for a tie against rivals Oldham Athletic for many reasons, such as the rivalry, worse form than Brentford, the possible return of striker Luke Beckett and the fact that it took two attempts to beat Chasetown FC who play in the Harvey World Travel Midland Football Alliance league.

So it’s not all doom and gloom, there are some reasons for positivity left. Let’s just hope that we can pick up maximum points during the Christmas period and maybe even take some points from Notts County next week. But let’s not get carried away now.
