What happened last time Stockport and Oldham met at Boundary Park
Stockport last played Oldham at Boundary Park on the 2nd October 2003. The result was a 2-0 loss for County, Carlton Palmer had recently left the club and John Hollins was the caretaker manager for the club.
This match continued Oldham’s winning streak with three games won on the run. John Sheridan scored a penalty on 11 minutes, County could have equalised but Aaron Wilbraham’s 10 yard effort was blocked by Les Pogliacomi. Scott Vernon doubled the lead only seconds after half time when Colgan fumbled his save and the ball fell to the talented striker. Only a few chances were created by Stockport during the whole match. The misery continued when substitute Jon Daly was given a straight red for elbowing Mark Hudson after spending only 11 minutes on the pitch.
Stockport play Oldham this Saturday (19th February) and will be looking to get at least one point from the game.
County’s form is nothing to be proud of, who haven’t won since their 2-1 win over Torquay on the New Years Day. Their last five matches consist of 2 draws and 3 losses. Stockport have not kept a clean sheet since October 2004, resulting in a goal difference of: -33.
Oldham are in 18th place with 36 points. The Latics have lost their last four matches, which was unexpected after the shock victory over Manchester City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Last week, Oldham lost 4-0 away to Bournemouth, who are in 9th place in the league. Perhaps this dip in form may allow Stockport to travel back home with a few points added to their league total and make the points tally ever more respectable.
Hundreds of County fans are expected to make the trip and be in full voice throughout the match and hope that the singing will lift the spirits of the players and put up a good fight. The match will not be easy, but I personally still have a little bit of optimism left.
