There are many myths of why the 14th of February is called Valentine’s Day. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in
Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.

So, Valentine’s Day is named after a priest who helped people in trouble. Who needs a myth when we have the very same in Stockport. His name is St. Chris Turner. Maybe Chris Turner does not have the same links to the Roman Empire that Valentine did, but I’m sure everyone agrees when I say that Edgeley Park is a little Roman fortress, at least it is for Sale Sharks. Chris Turner comes and saves, or at least he tries to save, the Stopfordians.

Unfortunately, Valentine was found out and was ordered to be put to death by Claudius, let’s hope for a different outcome as far as Chris Turner goes.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured. I thought very hard about a similar event happening in
Stockport.

Is this to say that the reason for Beckett, Daly and others leaving is that they are at the mercy of our owners? And that Chris Turner is rescuing them from the wrath of Cheshire Sports? Maybe we will find out in time, just like the Romans did.

According to one story, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter - who visited him during his imprisonment. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today.

If the same goes for Chris Turner, he must be sending love letters to the daughter of our owner! I’m not sure we should discuss this, we are suppose to be a neutral source of information and we only give you confirmed news, not rumours! I better leave this alone or I may lose my job.

In 2002, the average jewellery shop in the
USA sold over £83,000 worth of jewellery in February only! My thoughts are that Stockport County should launch a jewellery shop to pay the players’ wages. It should just about run the club!

After reading this insight into St. Valentine and Chris Turner, where would you rather spend your Valentines Day? Would you spend it with your wife/husband or with
Stockport County MAD? I know where I’d rather spend my Valentines Day, and it certainly is on this very website.
