We ask 25 year long County Fan Nick Hewitt, what his current views on the situation of County are in.
What’s your view on things this season?Very disappointing to say the least. I thought we were in for a good season under Sammy, but sadly some of his signings did not come off. But the question was he forced to go for his second choices i.e. the rumours about Chris Coyne for example. I went to the fans forum at EP when Niels de Vos and Sammy were present- it seemed obvious to me that things were not good between them and a parting of the ways was on the cards, the one in-one out 'promise' had not been kept for whatever reasons.
There has been a protest at a recent home game, about the running of the club. Were do you stand on this issue?
I feel the supporters have every reason to be angry, why does Brain Kennedy not meet the supporters to deny the rumours about the clubs future - I am convinced the majority would like to see Brian Kennedy make himself accessible to the fans, his continued silence does nothing to dispel the rumours In my opinion.
So, when Cheshire Sport appointed Turner what were your impressions and were you happy with the choice?
To be honest, I was not impressed at first considering his seemingly poor record at Sheffield Wednesday, but I looked at the bigger picture and found that he was highly rated for the job he did at Hartlepool under difficult circumstances, and he was very highly thought of by the Hartlepool faithful.
After Turner has been given around 2 month’s on the job, have you views changed in any way? If so in what ways have they changed and why?
Well, I still think he is the right man for the job, but the lack off backing from Cheshire Sports worries me. Chris Turner has said publicly that the team is simply not good enough, but it appears he is limited to signing 'cheap' players if any - how is that going to improve a team that by his own admission is not good enough?
When Cheshire Sports first bought the club, could you imagine that just around 18 months on that the club would have been in this much of a state?
No, I thought they would of make the investment required to arrest the decline that to be fair had set in long before they took over. I think that their policy in making more cutbacks is fundamentally floored – In My Opinion to make the club self-sufficient long term an initial investment needs to be made to arrest the slide. To be blunt I think they have made a right pigs ear off running Stockport County Football Club.
So, what would you think is a realistic target for Stockport County Football Club in the next 5 years?
Well that’s a good question, I would hope for a instant return to League one and then build for a promotion challenge to the Championship, In My Opinion it can be done as we have done it before, but the question is do Cheshire Sports have the desire?
So, finally were do you think we will finish this season and what’s going to happen next season?
Unfortunately bottom, for next season I hope that CT is given the backing necessary to bring in the standard of player required to mount a promotion challenge.
We would like to thank Nick Hewitt for his time.
